Dangerous Roads For the Motorcycle
When you think of the "motorcycle", the open road, leather jackets, and muscled arms of tattoos probably comes to mind. However, in the economic crunch of our times, more and more commuters are trading in their cars for scooters and motorcycles to get that better gas mileage. The face of the average motorcycle may be changing, but in the age of fast cars and busy highways it is still dangerous to be a small vehicle on the roads.
The three major problems that motorcyclists face when on the road are:
· Road hazards
· Speed
· Skill
Often in the summer months there are many construction sites, leaving hazardous items on the road, such as equipment, people, and signs. It is important as a motorcyclist to always keep a watchful eye out for any such hazards that could have devastating results. Speed is another issue. A motorcycle may be able to achieve the high speeds that cars and trucks can, but the safety level of doing this is not as high. Without any protective barrier, a rider will feel the 75mph on the road, rather than in the relative safety of the interior of the car. The skill of the motorcyclist is also important, as most accidents of any sort involve some sort of negligence from either driver. If a family member is a motorcyclist, make sure they have the proper skills before letting them out onto the open road.
One easy way to prevent a tragedy is to wear a helmet, and affective piece of equipment to prevent injury. Statistics show us that motorcyclists who are in an accident are three times as likely to suffer a brain injury if they do not wear a helmet than if they do. And because when a motorcycle accident occurs, it is likely to be very serious. Although the movement to adopt helmet laws is somewhat opposed by motorcyclists, it would greatly cut the amount of fatal motorcycle accidents on our roads.
