Buying a New Motorcycle Or Used Motorcycle? Don't Get Ripped Off
Trying to figure out if you are getting a good motorcycle deal is a very frustrating process when you want to buy a used motorcycle. Many people find it difficult to understand what kind of money goes into a used motorcycle.
Many people often just resort to buying new if they can't find the deal they want on a used motor bike. The best time to buy a new motorcycle is the end of the season when motorcycle dealers are giving out big discounts on remaining motorcycles not sold during the summer.
There are always people asking for more than their used motorcycle is worth If you are looking for a used Road King or other popular Harley, they are hard to come by and when you find one, they want almost the same price as a new one.
There are a lot of 15 and 20 year old bikes that are in great condition. Buying a used bike is tough if you don't know your way around the machinery and don't know what to look for. If you buy it from a dealer they will have to stand behind it so that is a relatively safe option.
The other choice is to find somebody who knows what they are doing and take them shopping with you. This can be a friend or a professional mechanic. There are listings in the yellow pages for services that will go to the seller's location and evaluate a vehicle that you are thinking about buying.
The best thing to do is go out and find the bike you want, with the extras you want on it, if you like it, you buy it. It is simple; the bike is worth what you want to pay for it. I paid more for mine than I can buy others for, but it was low mileage, well maintained, and the appearance was nice, so it was worth what I paid for it. I love the bike; it serves me well so it was worth every penny.
For people selling used motorcycles, it doesn't hurt to ask a high price, just do not expect to get it. I have seen people selling bikes over market value and their excuse is all the money they tied up in accessories. Just a piece of advice, you cannot get any money back on modifications usually because you designed the bike in your taste. I had a dealership tell me that accessories at best will get 10 cents on the dollar for trade in.
When buying a used motorcycle go to eBay and see what bikes are actually selling for. You can usually tell if you are going to get one in good condition for the asking price. Motorcycles frequently get much less use than a car, whether its due to climate or the owner not having enough time to ride it.
